“Morning Sun on Phelon Hill” depicts three white tail deer in a natural setting. An eight point buck (the one on the license plate) is making a mating ritual ground scrape. To the right a yearling longs to bed down in the shadows of the deep forest, and a doe sounds a warning snort in response to a predator, a large black bear. All will hightail it and vanish.
But, it’s not just a painting of wildlife, it’s a portrait of the land. Land that has been saved from development, and improved by careful forestry management efforts to sustain a healthy & diversified habitat for wildlife. It is the signature 300 acre property of the Sportsmen’s National Land Trust in Granville Massachusetts.
